Chapter Seventeen

Cyl woke to an empty bed. What happened to morning sex? She looked at the clock. It was nine thirty. Dang. She never slept that late. She didn’t bother to put any clothes on and wandered out to find Martinique and Luna sitting at the dining room table reading the book again.

“You two feel like coming back to bed?” Cyl said.

“Damn. Look at you,” said Martinique. “I’m on my way.”

Luna followed and they all pleased each other until no one had anything left.

“Nap time?” said Martinique.

“I say it’s food time. And then library,” said Luna.

“I’m starving,” said Cyl.

“Fine. I’m getting up.”

They took Mabel into town and had breakfast at the first diner Cyl had stopped at when she’d gotten Mabel.

“This is where we met,” said Luna.

“Indeed it is.”

The three were greeted like old friends by the hostess. They were seated and quickly decided what they’d have. Then talk turned to Brigid and Aurnia.

“I’m thinking if the Tainted Rose sunk near the shore, the treasure has already been found,” said Cyl.

“You’d think Brigid would know that,” said Martinique.

“Yes. I agree. I think the ship is still out there somewhere.”

“Okay. So now we need to put Aurnia at the same place. How can we determine that?”

“Maybe she was in Hispaniola on holiday,” said Martinique. “That’s the only thing I can think of that would explain it.”

“Yeah. That’s what I’m thinking too,” said Cyl.

“But we need to find out for sure. We need to find a passenger list for a ship that sailed there during that time. How are we going to do that?” said Luna.

“I’m sure Brigid would know the name of Aurnia’s ship. But we haven’t asked her and don’t get to talk to her for another week.” Cyl didn’t try to hide her frustration.

“Why don’t we ask her tonight?” said Martinique. “Is there a rule that we can’t try to summon her on a Sunday night?”

“But you two have to work tomorrow,” said Cyl.

“Well, I won’t spend the night again, unfortunately,” Martinique said.

“I don’t mind staying up. I’d like to ask Brigid,” said Luna.

“Okay. Then that’s settled. So what’s the point of going to the library then?”

“Good point. Oh good. Our food’s here,” said Martinique.

They ate and Cyl paid, over Martinique’s objections.

“I’m buying dinner,” she said.

“Is that right?” said Cyl.

“Yes. We’ll spend the day together and then I’ll take us out to dinner.”

“Sounds good to me,” said Luna. “What shall we do with our day?”

“Let’s go to St. Pete,” said Cyl. “I could use some fun in the sun.”

They all met back at the cottage an hour later with Martinique and Luna looking stunning in their suits with towels wrapped around their waists. Cyl wanted to take them both back to bed. Was she being untrue to Luna? It didn’t seem that way since Luna was a willing participant.

“You both look good enough to eat,” said Cyl.

“Later, stud,” said Luna.

“Color me jealous,” said Martinique.

“You’re invited,” Luna said.

“I just might take you up on that.”

“I hope you will.”

The sun and the water were just what Cyl needed.
